Ever wondered how it all started?

In 2006, Maharashtra government invited tenders for running a fleet of 10,000 air-conditioned, GPS-linked, electronic metered taxis in Mumbai to replace the already existing black-yellow cabs (Kaali-peeli taxis). Revolutionizing the mobility landscape, Meru was launched in Mumbai with electronic meters and GPS/GPRS system cabs. Mr. Neeraj Gupta, Founder and CEO of Meru Cabs, named the company after the Meru Mountain symbolizing unshakable reliability and perseverance. This trait was also seen in the services provided by Meru. But what makes Meru truly Indian, is its services which showcases warmth and safety for all its passengers

Meru’s business model was developed keeping in mind not only the passengers but also the driver partners. Keeping drivers’interest at the center, Meru’s business model is based on how much the driver wants to work; making him an entrepreneur who will be getting a fair share of the fares.

Safety being an important facet, was well understood by Meru from the very inception. Giving birth to a first of its kind service called ‘ICE Alert’ was introduced in 2013. This helped the customers to be prepared for any emergencies. Even during the Covid-19 pandemic, Meru partnered with essential services marketplaces to deliver basic essential items to households.

Ensuring the safety guidelines by the MHA in the unlocking phase, Meru has come up with 7 – tier safety measure which includes Ozone sanitized cabs, sanitizer bottles in every cab, separators for the drivers, compulsory mask & gloves for the drivers, digital payments to ensure minimum or no social contact ensuring the safety of the drivers as well as the passengers for a smooth and hassle free ride.
